FranklinDAO - Request for Hardware Grant

About Me:
FranklinDAO is the University of Pennsylvania’s student led organization involved within all aspects of Web3: Education, Governance, Investments, Development, Research, and now… Infrastructure! Throughout the years we have continued to grow by providing a student-run education curriculum for those interested in the space. After this, students select a committee to narrow their focus and develop specific skills preparing them to become leaders in the Web3 space. As web3 continues to mature, we’re continuously looking for the best ways to keep our members up to date and engaged in the exciting developments.

Why I’m requesting a Grant:
As an education and career focused club, the majority of our funds go towards sending members to conferences / workshops and hosting events to strengthen our community. Through our governance and investments experiences, we’ve witnessed firsthand the impact of large scale VCs running a majority of smaller network nodes as well as holding large shares of governance tokens. Overall, this has caused some concern over how decentralized many of these web3 protocols are in reality. Hence, the ability to contribute with physical hardware by running a EDV would best align with our values of achieving true decentralization in web3.

Additional Information:
FranklinDAO currently operates in committee format. However, since Infrastructure is a new pursuit of ours we plan to open up the learning opportunity to the entire DAO. Installing the hardware provided by the Hardware Grant will ignite a deeper involvement than pursuing our original plan of using VM software. This hands-on experience will lead to the creation of an independent committee focused on running and researching infrastructure efforts.

We look forward to helping you continue to scale into your infrastructure efforts!
